Dr. Morton Amsterdam's Vision
Over 60 years ago, a young rising star in the world of dentistry, Dr. Morton Amsterdam, opened his first private practice in Philadelphia. Amsterdam Dental Group quickly became a city institution: a dental practice known for performing advanced procedures that other dentists couldn't or wouldn't. Soon, the practice began attracting patients from all over the world. But Dr. Amsterdam did more than treat patients. He was a strong proponent of teaching the next generation of dental professionals and was proudly invited to join the faculties at both Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania.
As he accumulated more accolades, including honorary degrees from universities in the U.S. and around the world, Dr. Amsterdam continued his groundbreaking research. In 1974, he published a landmark paper on the art and science of Periodontal Prosthesis, a field of advanced restorative dentistry. This one paper fundamentally changed the course of modern dentistry, and went on to directly impact and influence thousands of students from around the world.
In 2001, Amsterdam Dental Group opened a second location in Paoli, Pennsylvania. The practice broadened its reach, providing the same level of innovative, highly skilled dentistry that patients had come to expect. This growth continued in 2016 with the acquisition of Family Dental Associates and office expansion, doubling the space of the state-of-the-art facility in the fall of that same year.
Today, all of the doctors who practice at Amsterdam Dental Group take great pride in honoring our tradition and mentoring those who share a commitment to dental excellence. Dr. Harold Baumgarten is privileged to have been trained by Drs. Amsterdam and Weisgold and believes strongly in sharing his experience with others, including partner, Dr. Howard Fraiman. Together with Dr. Jeffrey Ingber, they trained our newest associates - Drs. Caleb Cross and Brian Kasten. Recognized as experts in their fields, our entire team are all part of the academic faculty at Penn Dental Medicine and are active in various industry organizations.
